Work  /  Universe Explore Travel

Nobody searches the brand. They search the trip.

Universe Explore Travel is a DMC selling multi-day Egypt itineraries into European and North American markets. The product was strong. The problem was that the people buying it were searching for destinations and trip types — not for a company name they'd never heard of. We built the site around how those buyers actually search, and around how AI answer engines read a destination.

The challenge

A strong operator that only ranked for its own name

A DMC selling into Europe and North America is competing for travellers who start with a place and a length of stay — "things to do in Luxor in three days", "8-day Egypt itinerary" — long before they compare operators. Universe Explore Travel had the itineraries to answer exactly those searches, but the site was organised around the company rather than around the trips.

That meant the pages that could have ranked didn't exist as distinct, indexable destinations, and the content that did exist spoke to nobody in particular — not the German traveller planning a Nile cruise, not the North American couple pricing a two-week trip in dollars.

The brief was structural, not cosmetic: which destinations and trip types does this DMC deserve to be found for, and how does the site have to be built so it can be found — by search engines and by the AI answer engines travellers increasingly ask first?

The approach

Four decisions that shaped the build

01Destination clusters, not a services listThe architecture was mapped to destinations and trip types the way travellers search them — each cluster a hub with the itineraries, guides and answers around it. Structure decided first, because it determines what can ever rank.
02Written for the source marketContent aimed at the buyer in Europe and North America — the questions they ask before committing to a multi-day trip abroad, in the terms they use. A DMC's edge is knowing the destination; the site had to prove that to someone who's never been.
03An entity and schema graphDestinations, itineraries and the operator itself modelled as connected entities with structured data — so a machine can tell what this company is, what it sells and where, rather than guessing from prose.
04Built to be quoted by AI answersClear, extractable answers to the real planning questions, structured so answer engines can cite them. When a traveller asks an AI to plan Egypt, the trip should be citable — not invisible.

The build

Structure before content, content before pages

The order of work mattered more than any single page. Destination clusters were mapped and the entity model settled before a word of content was written — because that's what decides how both Google and an AI answer engine understand the site, and it's the part that's expensive to change later.

Each cluster was then built to do one job: answer the source-market traveller's real questions about that destination and trip type, and carry the structured data that lets a machine place the itinerary, the operator and the destination in relation to each other.

The mechanism is simple. A DMC wins these markets by being found for the trip, not the brand — and by being the source an answer engine reaches for. So the site was built to be read cleanly by both, from the structure up.
