Which tombs, and in what order

Start with Ramesses IV for the colour, then Merenptah for the depth, then one of the Ramesside tombs. Add Seti I if you add nothing else. Tutankhamun is small and busy — go for the mummy, not the walls.

Questions

Valley of the Kings questions

How many tombs can I see?
The standard ticket admits three of the open tombs. Tutankhamun, Seti I and Ramesses V–VI need separate tickets, bought at the gate or included on the packages that say so.
Is it hard walking?
Sloping ramps and steps into each tomb; Merenptah is the deepest at about 120 steps. The valley floor is flat with a small train from the gate.
Can the guide come inside?
Guides explain outside the tombs by rule. Ours briefs you at each entrance with the plan of the tomb and meets you at the exit.
When is it least crowded?
06:00 to 08:30, before the cruise coaches. Every Nourbelle Luxor day enters at 06:30.
Is Seti I worth EGP 1,800?
Yes if you care about painted relief — it is the finest tomb in Egypt and rarely has more than a dozen people inside.
